I think art-making is an act of love. We certainly make art as gifts to our communities because often we are not paid for the work that we produce and often it’s not purchased. So it is…making art is a kind of gift to the planet. But most people don’t see it that way you know because artists…although I’m fairly middle class, but I sacrifice for my work. I do without so that I can do this. So I might drive an 11 year old Subaru, but I do that so I can do this. There isn’t another kind of job on the planet that will allow you to do what you want to do and that’s your job. And then you have an opportunity to show what you’re thinking about. And we really are the pulse, I wouldn’t say the heart beat we’re the…we reflect the pulse of our culture. What we as artists are doing now represents all of our political values, our economic values, our religious values and our social values…it always has. And 20 or 25 years from now people will be looking at the work that I’ve created and other people of my generation and placing the work into its context historically, and from the artwork we can tell what our culture was thinking and doing.
