Regina is internationally known and acclaimed as a center of clay activity. And [in] Saskatchewan, we probably have more artists that work in clay per capita, that make a living from it or make almost a living from it, than probably anywhere else in the world including Japan.

I think part of it has to do with the University that helps promote clay activities. And part of it has to do with the Saskatchewan Arts Board which funded clay people and set up a real cultural oasis of art activity; I think the Arts Board has a lot of credit coming to it from that. And the fact that we have an informed public here, in Saskatchewan, that buy it. Regina ceramics are well known and internationally respected, and I think it’s because of the individual nature of the work that is produced here.
