Doug Bentham - Why Emma Lake is Still Important

I encourage artists especially to recognize that we do work in some isolation here, that we mustn’t be parochial and we mustn’t sense, or be self-satisfied, that we have become big fish in a small pond that it is always the larger pond that’s the important thing. Through Emma Lake and through other workshops around the world and such that encourage and continue to expand across the modernist model.  There is a community and a kind of a conversation or dialogue out there which artists like myself want to be a part of. So you make the effort if for no other reason, for instance, taking your work across an ocean to show that you are part of a large world family of artists who care about quality and the ability of inanimate objects to affect people and to provoke them. So it’s very worthwhile.
