Artists often use their work to explore significant events and themes in human life. Perhaps none of these events is as universal or as significant as mortality - the fact that a person or thing will eventually be gone - although there are many forms of mortality: the mortality of an idea, the mortality of a civilization, the mortality of a culture, or the mortality of the individual.
