Have you ever looked at a work of art and said to yourself, “What could the artist possibly have in mind when he/she made that?” Or have you said to yourself, “I could have done that!?” Beyond Representation, based on works in the MacKenzie Art Gallery collection, will introduce you to a variety of styles of  abstractImagery which departs from representational accuracy, to a variable range of possible degrees. Abstract artists select and then exaggerate or simplify the forms suggested by the world around them.  (  art. Through viewing the works and reflecting on the artists’ intentions we will attempt to simplify and explain works that on first impression appear to have little or no connection to the ‘real world’ as we know it.
